On Amaris, fourteen-year-old Njeri, a Rehmat marked at birth for great power, struggles to embrace Ruach—the life-giving force that flows through all things. Instead, she accidentally touches its dark counterpart, Resha, marking her as different and feared. Haunted by nightmares and the violent death of her parents, Njeri discovers a hidden scroll revealing her destiny as the key to uniting with a traveler from another world.

In New York, Chloe, grieving the loss of her parents, is pulled through Gustav Klimt’s Woman in Gold via a Thura Gate into Amaris. Guided by a prophetic hummingbird, she emerges in the sacred Forest of Myrkvior, where she learns she is the Yasha—foretold outsider needed to reassemble the shattered Fylakistone, a prison for the awakened evil Sathariel.
As darkness spreads—corrupting clans, awakening trolls and Obscura—Njeri and Chloe’s paths converge. Together, they journey across Amaris’s diverse realms: the tree-city of the Vanavasin, the mountain forges of the warlike Taura, and the underwater temples of the Adira. Facing betrayal from the Eleutheran rulers and Sathariel’s growing power, the girls confront their deepest fears—Njeri’s terror of enclosed spaces and Resha’s seductive pull, Chloe’s trauma of drowning—to retrieve the stone’s fragments.
In a climactic battle at the Lake of the Koimeterion, Njeri masters the balance of light and dark, while Chloe’s courage proves pivotal. United, they reforge the Fylakistone, imprisoning Sathariel and restoring hope to Amaris. Yet victory comes at a cost, and whispers remain: darkness always seeks return.
